Hans Henkemans and his wife Emy lived in Bergen from 1952 to 1983 — the period in which he reached the peak of his pianistic career and composed intensively. Henkemans appreciated the tranquility, the nature, and the artistic climate, and maintained close friendships there with, among others, the poet Adriaan Roland Holst.
